Where did the year go?

So here we are, a few days shy of 2013, and like most of you, I'm thinking back on everything that happened this year. Not to brag or anything, but I did a lot! Way more than I planned, thought I could do, and come to think of it I am REALLY happy about everything that happened.

December 29th and let's think back to Jan. 1st. and here is my list of things.

January 1st, I rang in the New Year sick as a dog, but able to watch the fireworks from my Downtown Denver apartment with the love of my life, Ryan, and his sweet five year old daughter. It is a memory I will always cherish, it was romantic, sweet and calming to see the lights blossom over a city I had lived in for a year and was having to say goodbye to. Not only was it goodbye to a city I had started University in, but one where I had a dream job at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and one where I had the amazing studio apartment in the sky overlooking all of Denver, the mountains and many new dreams.

Around January 6th, I moved my boyfriend from his parent's house to OUR new place in Fort Collins, Colorado. He had a lot of a furniture, big furniture, 6'4" giant and his massive things....Hahaha, we got settled and I quit panicking that I would not fit in our new home.

Middle of the month, the 15th or so, it was my turn to move. I was ill-prepared, there was no where to park the UHAUL in Capitol Hill Denver because there was never anywhere to park. But we got most of everything loaded, had to plan a second trip, and planned to call Salvation Army to pick up the couch and table I had. We got to Fort Collins, unloaded, still have not heard the end of how I "bended space" to fit all my stuff in a studio apartment. Or about how much junk I have....sorry Ryan, I'm a crafter, you have been warned.

February 9th, was my 21st birthday! WOO HOO! My first drink was with Ryan at the Crown's Pub in old town, my night out with friends the next night started at Beau Jo's Pizza and ended at Washington's where a snow storm sent us all home a little early. Great memories, with wonderful, wonderful people.

March meant I got a job at Sears, April meant I quite the job at Sears and changed to Old Firehouse Books where I am now, and VERY happy. My best friend also visited for Spring Break, we went to see Flogging Molly and ate crepes, but mostly we were lazy and it was so wonderful to see her.

May meant the end of Spring Semester, my first at Colorado State University, it ended fairly successful.

June meant a trip to the Bay Area, San Francisco and Fairfax to say goodbye to Ryan's Grandpa, meet his grandmother, uncles and how fun and expensive the area was. It also was our first trip as a family, where we went to sights together, drove together, and Ryan and I stuffed our faces on the best Sushi I have EVER had! This trips makes me smile every time when I think back.

Right after the trip I started Summer semester, Astronomy and Statistics...and by some act of god I passed both, B in Astronomy and C in Stats. I think the teachers took sympathy on me.

August meant the start of another Semester, my middle sister also started school, my best friend changed schools in New York, Ryan's daughter started Kindergarten. I also started doing a radio show for KCSU, the college radio. It was all pretty awesome. I also got to see the president speak, by standing in line for 6 hours, sun burnt, dehydrated, surrounded by jerky frat boys...it was worth it, and the photos I got to take!

October meant Halloween, costumes, party, geekery, the start of my favorite time of year! I started acupuncture to help, everything. Guess what, it helps everything, but Ryan still calls it voo doo. (He's joking in case you can't keep up)

November, this meant Ryan and I celebrated 2 years together with fish and pinball, he bought me a great bookcase and book on the Louvre! WE also hosted my family, parents, sisters, grandma, aunt and cousin all for Thanksgiving. It was busy, but fun and went surprisingly well with the mix of beliefs and ideas. Oh and Obama won 4 more years! YAHOO!

December, the month that is not quite over, Ryan got almost a double pay raise at work, gets to manage his own store, and may get bonuses! Meaning he is actually making a living wage just in time for his car's engine to crap out. Christmas came with wonderful pressies, food (Sushi again!)  and laziness, all were happy. The day after I finished my book, about my trip 2 1/2 years ago, and now I'm nervous about finding an agent. But hey the worst part is over! Then yesterday, December 28th, Ryan and I took the next step in a relationship, and bought a car together. It's a 2012 Mazda 2, new, 7 year warranty, hatchback car for us to survive college and whatever comes after that.

As far as resolutions, the one to eat better and exercise more pretty much worked, I bought a bike, walk some (not as much as in Denver) but I manage. I finished writing and editing my book, set up the starts of a photography business, got Ryan everything he wanted for Christmas. Grew in having a 5 year old around. I have got better at managing stress and anxiety, find myself following a Buddhist doctrine of peace and compassion more. Overall, I am a very happy person with this year, so thanks for reading! and what are you happy for this year? What did you accomplish?

Love, Peace, Joy XXXX
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Procrastination...you old devil

FINALS WEEK! Well crap, that time of the semester when you want to be doing anything BUT study for tests. Where when it is the holiday season you want to be stuffing your face with sweets and making cookies, or decorating your tree, cutting up snow flakes or anything BUT studying for your last final tomorrow on British Literature, the one that is worth the biggest part of your grade compared to any other class. What am I doing? I'm writing a blog.

A blog.

Rather than buckling down and memorizing quotes and organizing data on for the essay portion....

I'm a bad procrastinator.

The kind with too many hobbies and in denial on my own bad habits on putting off studying, papers, etc. unless they're something I REALLY want to do.

Obviously, I don't want to put together my cheat sheet, and reread poetry and notes on Iambic Pentameter,  so I am writing this.

Oh and next semester will be just as bad, because I am planning on my second European adventure! HELLS YEAH!

So, come mid/late May, I will be taking notes on clothing I want to take, Churches I want to photograph and looking up train schedules to Venice, rather than studying for my final in 18th Century America.

I will say there IS something to be said for taking a break from academia, if I goof off for a while I DO get into a better mood to study, and I tend to work better under pressure.

So yeah, denial, excuses, whatever you want to call it. What is your bad academic habit?

Yet, I'm not such a procrastinator at FUN things....like present shopping, and holiday cards, and making snowmen ornaments, and putting up holiday decor. Can I have credit for that?

I hope this makes you laugh, smile and that you enjoy. I hope to make this word vomit more often on here, and thanks for reading!

Trying To Be Professional...

In recent years I have been unaware of the professional realm going by their real names in e-mail and blogs and website and now I am trying to remedy this. I want to write, and be published and all of that so from now on this is my blog, my story, my outlet. Stay posted because next month I am doing NaNoWriMo, which if you don't know what that is then, you should look it up.
